That’s what I was on today. I did some major household reorganizing. And it felt good! I still have quite a mess left, as is always the case after you move your furniture, but it will get there. I’m not planning a remodel, so no mortgage lenders are involved in my little project, but it’s going to open up more space for us eventually, and a couple of rooms are already looking better.

but I can still sing! I found out tonight that I am clueless about which games go with which system. Apparently, they don’t all go together, and Rock Band and Guitar hero are two separate things, and they do not play nicely together? Only one of them is for PS3 but you can use the GT guitar with Rock Band?? K.

As for the rest, I can still belt out Wanted: Dead or Alive with 98% accuracy. Not bad for an old worn out un-hip mom, huh??

Do you know what I found out the other day? Pop Warner has contracted again with a local photography company to take photos of the games and kids again this year. That company has put out that they don’t want digital cameras on the field. Not just digital, any cameras at all. They consider it “infringing on their contract”. Umm, excuse me. No contract gives you the right to tell me I can’t take pictures of my own child. And if my camera happens to capture the image of my friends child as well,…. that’s just the result of my clearly inferior amateur photogrphy skills. IOW, KMT.

Not so Fast, Please

Do your little boys have dream cars already? Do they dream of a classic Mustang with Bullit wheels and a glass pack? Or are they still thinking match box is the end all and be all of automobiles? Do they want slick cars like K.I.T.T., or do they wish for stock cars and racing? My little boys are still mostly little, none of them has mentioned what kind of car they eventually want to have yet. But it has been a while snce they declared their intent to live with me forever, or “at least across the street so I can come for fried chicken”.

It’s hard watching them grow isn’t it? Lately, I’ve been listening to Trace Adkins sing “You’re Gonna Miss This”, and I think he must be singing just to me. Sometimes I want to freeze them all for just a few minutes, so I can burn into my mind the perfection of THIS moment, before it blurs into the next.

Did I laugh today? Did I love enough? Soon enough, it’s going to be the real cars and the real life problems. Am I teaching them how to live, along with the Math and English?

The State of the Floors, or, Empire Today needs to call me

You know, it’s been a very long time since I complained about my floors. And it is well past time that I share my dirty little secrets with you all. Now you should know that I have champagne taste on a beer budget and that the reason that my floors are in this sad sack shape is that I am holding out for the good stuff. I want hardwood flooring and I want it bad. I want high quality stuff, and with this many people walking on it, there is no excuse for settling for less. Therefore, if you visit me, you will find my kitchen linoleum patched with duct tape. It got damaged when the under flooring swelled to ginormous proportions when the hot water heater let go. Slowly. For a very long time. Months, even.

In fact, I’d like to buy from an outfit like Empire Today. See, they schedule and appointment and bring samples right to your home. You can see how the flooring you choose will look with the furnishings you already have. And, they have next day installation. And also, their jingle is done barbershop style. (Have I ever mentioned that I was once a Sweet Adeline 5 children ago? Yeah, I was.) 800-588-2300 Empire never sounded so good! Just listen:

They must be doing something right, because they’ve come a long way from the small Chicago business they began with in 1959. And that Empire man, he sounds so smooth, doesn’t he? I bet he’s sold a lot of plush carpet and ceramic flooring, because he almost convinced me! Good thing I remembered I was holding out for hardwood! Empire is even on Wikipedia.

Vakay at home

That’s what we’re doing! After too many years of not being able to figure out how to take my wonderfully large family away for a vacation, we started camping out in the backyard. We have a ton of fun, and it’s pretty cheap entertainment, considering. Now, you might not need to stay quite as close as we do, but it can be a lot of fun to play tourist in your own home town. Las Vegas vacations for those in Nevada, and coastal excursions for folks in this area. Maybe even arrange a trade!

Just kidding. So far. Seriously, I can’t help but think that we might come out better with a horse and buggy than to continue buying gasoline at today’s prices. Really, horse supplies can’t cost four bucks a gallon, can they? And we could get a stage coach to hold us all, and that would just about be sweet. Except for the poop. Haven’t quite figured out what to do about all the poop.

Fly Times

My dh and I have a saying, “fly times”. It’s our shorthand for that phrase “Time flies when you are having fun”, crossed with where did the time go and how did it get so late?!!?? Have you ever noticed that as parents you can tell what time it is by the behavior of your children, no luxury watches needed? Around here, at 8pm one son becomes rebellious, hard headed and belligerent, and one daughter becomes clingier than a post it note. That’s when dh and I look at each other and I say “must be bed time!” and he says “fly times”.

It’s time to start running the kids through for sports physicals. Man, is that ever a three ring circus!! I schedule them three at a time, see, to get it over with. That way dh doesn’t have to miss 6 mornings of work, but only 2. At least they don’t have to get clinical laboratory services, because that would be a little hairier to do en masse.
