Chalk Art

Lookie what the kids made:

IMG 0480

We were camping in the backyard this weekend, and they made a masterpiece! I’ll definitely have to buy more chalk before our next camp out. We’re doing it again Father’s Day weekend. It’s much cheaper than some other vacations, but I still have a few things on my camping wish list. I should set up a couple of savings accounts to pay for that stuff, I guess, even if it’s just in envelopes. Not that I have enough financial self discipline for that, but, you know. I can dream.

OUCH!

Poor DaBaby is having a rough time of it lately. She cut one of her fingers pretty badly last week on a I-still-don’t-know-exactly-what, and she just got the other hand slammed in the door. And I think she’s working pretty hard on potty training because she’s been crying a whole lot instead of using words. I sure hope we can avoid any more accidents. If she makes my heart stop one more time, then we might be wishing I had life insurance. Well, they might, anyway. I ’spect it won’t much matter to me.

Hormones

So, here I am at 40. Often waspish, frequently tired, and in the no man’s land of wildly fluctuating hormones. My poor husband gets attacked one week and I couldn’t care less the next. I sure am glad he hangs around, yk? Do you know that progesterone is rumored to help with PMS? That’s what they say anyway. I’m not sure whether it’s any more effective than, say, a trip to Tahiti (alone) would be, but that’s what they say. The progesterone is certainly cheaper, though ;)

Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’

Do you remember hearing that from your parents? It sound like you have a passport for trouble, doesn’t it? My mom used to say that to me all the time, and it sure did cause a change in my behavior!

I’ve been thinking more about discipline lately. The undeniable necessity of it has pressed on me from several directions. Discipline is from the root disciple, you know. It means to teach and train. Punishment, if one does the teaching and training well, is just a small part of it. Real discipline, teaching and training, take a lot of time. Just sayin’

Stuntman meets a Dictionary

Stuntman has a love/hate relationship with the dictionary, and by that I mean he hates the dictionary and loves to avoid using it. He has even convinced himself that it is “too hard”. Too hard to use a dictionary!!! He got to use it today, though. I was trying to define fear, in the context of fear God, which led to a definition of reverence and awe, which led to him saying I was too old to say awesome. Which led to me telling him to look it up. Listen, I may not know a CAT6 from a rubber baby buggy bumper, but I DO know how to use a dictionary. And now, so does he.

Got a bicycle?

Daggone! I know I don’t get out much and all, and I never pump gas, because…well, I don’t. Seriously, I will drive right past a gas station with he light on and the bell dinging and tell dh he needs to go get gas, because… that’s the way I am, and he lets me. Yet, I will pump gas if my mom asks me too. Man, have I digressed. Anyway.

My husband told me today that gas is almost $3.70 a gallon. That’s just crazy. Of course, I reminded him that half of that was taxes, but still. That doesn’t help you decide between foreclosure and filling the tank!

Lookit us!!

You recall I have mentioned before that I wanted a digital picture frame? Shots like these are why I need one! See, this is just a small sampling of the pictures we made yesterday after church. By the time I bought picture frames for all the ones that are frame-worthy, I could just buy a digiframe and be done with it. Because, let’s face it–I have gorgeous kids!IMG 0458IMG 0471IMG 0469IMG 0467

Writing Lessons

When did the instrument of choice for math become a pen? Country has been using one for quite a while now, and man, she goes through the ink. I ought to buy stock Papermate pens, or at least buy them in bulk, ya know?

In other writing news, I invested in handwriting books for the rest of my students. I got tired of having to ask what they were “trying to write here?” It’s insane, I tell you, insane. Of course, I may have a hard row to hoe, since my own handwriting did not become acceptable until I was in my 30s.

Back in the Groove

So, I am finally getting back in the swing of things. School is once again continuing apace, the house is coming back togehter, and I am able to blog again. I am just about over being sick. And today, DaBaby has explosive diarrhea and Batman stood up from his chair at lunch and engaged in a technicolor barf-o-rama. Literally one step from the table, ya’ll. I can’t win for losing, it seems. The fun stopped there, but I tell you, I am one step away from calling one of those cheap hotels, and taking a vakay. Sans sicko kids, natch.

Health Insurance for Children

I’m sure it’s totally not going to shock you when I say health care cost are astronomical, and that the cost of insurance is likewise outrageous. Now, I do have some serious rants about the state of health care in this country, and how affordable health insurance ought to be a priority, nit just lip serviced, but this is not a political blog. I have one of those, but this is not it, therefore I will refrain from launching into a scathing attack…………opps, sorry. Got a little carried away, didn’t I?

Let’s get back to budgeting and health insurance. If you are not provided health insurance through your work, be sure to check in to the insurance offered by your state. Although adult health coverage is hard to obtain, the insurance for children is not, and the deductible and/or co-pay, is shockingly low. Eligibility depends on income and family size, but the amount you can make is more than you might think, up to $34,100 a year for a family of four, and that goes up as family size increases.

If you don’t qualify for that, check out other options. You can get health insurance quotes in your pajamas!
