Mothering Mondays-My apologies

More Mothers of Many 6 Comments

Nope that’s not the name of the blog I am introducing you to this week. It’s my actual apology for not having one to introduce you to. I’ve been busy the last several days, and so I have not selected one to highlight. Why don’t you leave me a comment and tell me about one of YOUR favorite mom-blogs?

Cheap Office Fun Box

Getting it Done, Having Fun 6 Comments

Here’s a cheap but fun thing you can make for your kids. Gather up an old dress shirt or two, some pads of paper, a few custom pens with logos and some business cards if you have any. An old cellphone would be great, as would a keyboard of any type. Invite the children to ply “office” when you need to be at the computer. Slide the box under your desk when you are done, and it will be a special thing for them, since they only get to use it when you are “working, too.”

The D List

Uncategorized 5 Comments

I was thrilled when I found out that Colleen of Geeky Speaky had started what she’s calling the D-list. The D-list is a list of blogs that give link love to their commenters by instructing the bots to follow the links commenters leave instead of ignoring them. We all know it’s not nice to ignore people who are talking to you, don’t we? At least, that’s what I keep telling my children! There are several plugins available that will strip the automatic “no follow” off your comments, and it’s a great way to get people talking. So, now you know: I follow. Do you?

***Begin Copying Here***
1.Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn’t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra link back.
2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword.
3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the “Originals” list.
4. Add at least 1 new blog that you KNOW is using the DO FOLLOW plugin to the list in the “My Adds” section. (Add no more than 5!) Let the people you’ve added know, so that they can keep the list going!
5. Leave relevant comments on the blogs listed and get a link back to your site thanks to Do Follow!

Marble Magnets

Having Fun 4 Comments

Here’s a neat little craft that I’d like to try this with the kiddos. Marble Magnets are made with pictures, glue and the flat glass stones. And magnets, of course. These look like great fun, and something all but the youngest children could do. And of course, they make cool gifts. I bet you could even do this with those tiny pictures you get in photo packages!

Who’s Coming?

Getting it Done 2 Comments

So, today being Friday, I got up and started cleaning right in front of my apparently oblivious children. I invited (heh, you know what I really mean) them to join me one by one. We’d finished most of the kitchen, when I needed to hold the baby, and my midwife called. She asked me if it was ok to send someone over, and I hemmed and hawed about the state of the house, and finally said “go ahead, it’s fine”. By the time we were through talking, the baby was asleep, so I told the children it was time to clean up the living room.

Oh, the gnashing of teeth. The horribleness of it all. And the “why do we have to clean up just because someone’s coming?” Umm, kids?? First, what about all that cleaning that happened before the phone call? And, umm, kids?? Don’t we deserve a clean house, too? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Communicating

Learning at Home 4 Comments

Sometimes learning at home is not just about education. For instance, I’ve learned this week that one of my children had a basic misunderstanding of what I have been saying to her for several months. Today’s tip: if your words are not having the effect you desire with your children, make sure you both have the same meaning for those words.

Mothering Mondays-Actual Unretouched Photo

More Mothers of Many 2 Comments

I love this blog. This woman is me, only far more eloquent and witty. Mel writes wonderful words that paint marvelous pictures in my mind. I guess that’s why she calls it Actual Unretouched Photo. You’ll have to use teh archives on the sidebar to read her previous entries. The buttons at the bottom of her home page are not working properly, but they do work on the monthly archives. Best bet: go every day so you don’t miss anything.
