Heat it Up

4:43 pm Getting it Done

I know it’s summer, but you know winter is surely coming, right? I have a heat vent/child ratio that is a bit unbalanced, LOL. One of my children especially loves to wrap up in a blanket and camp out over the heat vent when it’s cold. Since I only have 2 such vents in the living room proper, you can see how this could lead to trouble.

I read today about underfloor heating. This heating system is actually installed under your flooring, but it’s thin (less than half a millimeter), so that it barely raises the floor at all. As an added bonus, you no longer have to work around vents or radiators when you place your furniture. With space at a premium around here, that would help us a lot. The system uses carbon to heat your home, in a way that is way too complex for me to explain 9sorry, missed my nap, and also a couple night’s sleep this week). It works under wood or laminate floors, and since I am really wanting to replace my threadbare carpet, anyway, this is something I will consider when the time comes.

We have always coveted underfloor heating from seeing it so often on This Old House. We thought about it when we did the floors here, but it was a bit too $$ for us.

I’m afraid that will be the case with us, too. We’ll see when the time comes, I guess.
